Guaranteed
and worthwhile curriculum- It is vital
that the curriculum be worthwhile and sequenced correctly. The curriculum is the map that guides both
the teacher and the student. Without a
good working map, both the teacher and the student will get lost and the
learning experience will suffer and fail.
Challenging
Goals and Effective Feedback –Students need to set goals so they know what they
are trying to achieve. Effective
feedback is crucial so that students know when they meet those goals, and if
they haven’t met them, they need to know what to do in order to attain them.
Parent and
Community Involvement: One of my
favorite quotes, “It takes a village to raise a child”, expresses the same
sentiment. Schools impact can only reach
so far. It does not take long for a
student to recognize when a parent does not support the school. Most of the time they use this knowledge to
sabotage their own learning. Schools and communities rely on each other, esp.
in rural areas. The stronger the
relationship between the school and the community; the more positive effect it
will have on the learning process.
Safe and
Orderly Environment—Feeling safe is one of the most basic needs of a
person. Until that need is met, little
or no learning will take place.
Collegiality
and Professionalism—Together everyone achieves more, without collegiality the
learning experience is negatively affected.
If everyone is not working for the same goal together, the education
process is slowed down. Professionalism
is an important factor for many reasons.
One of those reasons is that the educators at the school must constantly
seek more education themselves, in order to keep up with our constant changing
world, so that we know we know that our students are getting the best and most
relevant education possible.
